How do you know rather a technology is good or bad? One parameter which used to quantify it is by seeing its efficiency. Efficiency concept becomes paradox if we related it with consumerism. In one hand, technology development such as hand phone makes people connect with other people or the web much easier and faster, in the other hand, culture of the human which used the technology doesn’t rise with the same speed. The gap between technology development and human ability to use the technology rise technology mystification which have a correlation with life style. In one presentation about culture that I attend, relation between human ability and consumption pattern is homologic. Its mean that someone who has a high ability of technology will always buy gadget appropriate with the ability that s/he had. In reality, the relation isn’t not always homologic, in several villages that hasn’t have a good electricity yet, people buy refrigerator because of it shine and social hierarchy. Technology is analog with luxury rather than its function.
