Deterministic, order and predictable are several characteristics which pointed to technology. These characteristic are used to ‘attack’ wilderness of nature, and workers. Tool to count our attendance at the office for an example, make our habit become predictable, at least physically. The measurement continues by quantify our performance with numbers. Motivation can be transformed into several parameters, such as salary, facilities, assurance, safety etc. If the workers performance decreases, then the feedback system will increase some of element of the parameter in order to increase the performance.
But, do human act in those deterministic manners? How about beauty and culture, can it be modeled also? By reading some references, I found that the soft sciences can also be modeled, just as the hard science can. For the ‘playing sake’ modeling is fun. No matter what the object is, seeing the graphic increase or decrease if we change some of the parameters is interesting. Counting when we will reach the Break Event Point by relating several parameters or modeling the flood in Jakarta can be done.
The assumptions that used in the model are as long that we do some action as modeled than the problem can be solved. That’s why our understanding of a phenomenon became the most important thing of the model. Validity of a model can be seen by comparing data from the BPS, newspaper, etc with the simulation result.
