What connect science, technology, and art? My friend asked this question while we were discussing Bandung Institut of Technology which consists of those elements. One of the answers which occurred is that science is the idea, technology made the idea possible, and art made the appearance of technology beautiful. An example of unity of the three elements can be seen in hand phone, and note book which influence the consumer preference. In architecture, the unity of science, technology and art is become clearer, as I was wrote before.
The unity make me wondering, are science and technology subjective? Or, in other words, is art objective? Dichotomy between science and art sometimes occur when dealing with subjectivity/objectivity. A painting can have a different influence when it deals with a different person, but science claimed as objective. This objectivity means that for everyone science have a same characteristic.
Well, I don’t know rather the statement above is true or false, but for me, science become subjective also, especially when it correlate with fields which I’m not familiar with. I think the condition also be valid in art. A curator in cubism can assess rather an amateur painting in cubism is good or bad based on it technique and its originality, while for us, maybe all those paintings look the same, abstract.
The illustration above shows that when we look in a micro scale, each element consist of science, technology and art.
