Radioactive wastes are waste products containing radioactive materials. They are usually the products of nuclear processes, such as nuclear fission. However, industries not directly connected to the nuclear industry may produce large quantities of radioactive waste.
Recently, it has been reported in ScienceDaily that Scientists in Germany and India are reporting development of a new polymer that reduces the amount of radioactive waste produced during routine operation of nuclear reactors.
It has been long known that the nuclear energy produces a great radioactive wastes, like carbon steel and cobalt–that presents in some alloys used in the reactors’ water systems, is a major contributor toward this problem because of its long half-life.
Börje Sellergren and colleagues created an adsorbent material that is selective for cobalt but has the unique ability of disregarding iron-based ions.

Sampah radioaktip (terutama pada reaktor fisi)merupakan kendala dalam produksi tenaga listrik dari energi nuklir. Instalasi air (untuk turbin uap dan pendingin) sangat terkontaminasi oleh radioaktip.
Dengan diketemukan polimer lembut yang sanggup menyerap radioakititas, maka akan mengurangi sampah radioaktip yang dibangkitkan dalam proses memproduksi energi nuklir.
Dalam Fiksi Blackhole (abad ke 30) reaktor fisi tetap dikhawatirkan keberadaannya, beberapa negara bagian memilih penggunaan reaktor nuklir fusi yang dianggap lebih aman. Kelemahan rekator fusi ialah bahan bakarnya adalah hidrogin, padahal unsur ini sangat dibutuhkan bagi kehidupan.Contohnya air dan karbohydrad. Jika hidrogin diubah menjadi Helium dikhawatirkan dunia akan kekurangan air dan bahan makanan.
Semoga penemuan polymer lembut, gambaran fiksi Bh itu tak benar sebab reaktor nuklir fisi dapat aman dan tak menyebabkan sampah radioaktip.
