Nanotechnology seems to be the solution for human problem now. Wheter it is a cancer, tumor, heart monitoring, or even a synthetic brain.
After the scientist in USA–led by Professor Alice Parker, University of Southern California–informed that they are attempting to build neurons from carbon nanotubes to emulate human brain function, ScienceDaily yesterday reported that “synthetic cortex” is the next emulating human brain function that will be examined.
The project called BioRC (Biomimetic Real-Time Cortex), firstly studying the behavior of cortical neurons – what makes them fire and send signals through synaptic connectors to other neurons in the human cortex – as well as the neurons’ “plasticity,” or ability to learn and remember.
See here for the complete report. This synthetic brain looks like a long way from reality, but researchers at the University of Southern California has been a step ahead to the implementation. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation.
