You're here: My Science Blogging » Discovery » Article: Neural Effects of Obesity Gene
You know, when I saw someone who have problem with their weight, OK lets say : obesity, I thought that it was all about habit. Bad eating habit, less exercise.
I never think that gene also has a signifficant impact to the obesity. A research by an international team of scientists with German participation through the Helmholtz Zentrum München then freak me out. They found six new obesity genes, and they are all active in the brain cells : TMEM18, KCTD15, GNPDA2, SH2B1, MTCH2, and NEGR1.
I don’t understand what the gene’s name are stand for, but before this finding, SH2B1 gene has been known as the gene that playing role in the leptin signalling and thus in the regulation of appetite, but none of the other five genes was hitherto discussed as obesity genes.
But still, the further research are still needed, to achieve a precise conclusion.
