December 1st is a date when we observed World AIDS day. This day is due to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic, caused by the spread of HIV infection. In this year of 2008, we do remember again about the harm of this virus by sticking this red ribbon for a day. HIV AIDS indeed has killed an estimated 2.1 million people, including 330,000 children. It estimated 33.2 million people lived with the disease worldwide too.
Reaserchers are never stop doing study to find how to cure this pandemic. A Portuguese has a progress lately. In their paper, they explain how they’ve steps closer to understanding AIDS immunity. They now know, how HIV seropositive individuals can live with the virus for years with out taking antiretroviral drugs and contracting AIDS.
This is a small population of under 0,2 percent in the world, who seemed to be immune to this virus. They have a way to keep their CD4+ count at a normal level, while the CD8+ lymphocytes stick to their job, maintaining viral levels as low as 50 viruses per milliliter of blood. Normally, this is not the case and CD8+ lymphocytes can’t keep up with the viral activity.
Let’s keep hoping and praying for all researchers to continue ther study to understanding more about HIV AIDS. Hohoho.
